The Head of Platform Engineering in the Payments Business Unit leads the design, development, and maintenance of the foundational platform infrastructure required for scalable, reliable, and enterprise-grade payment solutions. This role is responsible for building an infrastructure that supports both microservices and monolithic applications, ensuring high availability, security, and operational excellence. The leader collaborates with engineering, security, and product teams to embed best practices in cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments, enabling rapid innovation and dependable delivery of Payments products.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Strategy & Architecture:
Define and execute the platform infrastructure strategy aligned with the Payments BU goals, enterprise standards, and future scalability needs.
Design and oversee the implementation of a resilient, secure, and scalable infrastructure supporting both microservices and monolithic architectures.
Establish standards for cloud (public/private/hybrid), virtualization, containerization, and orchestration technologies (including Kubernetes).
Promote the adoption of infrastructure-as-code, automation, and self-service portals to enable rapid and reliable deployment.
Development & Delivery of Infrastructure:
Lead the development of foundational components of Payments system in JAVA. High Quality is a must.
Promote the adoption of AI based engineering.
Ensure infrastructure is enterprise-grade, providing high availability, disaster recovery, and scalability for critical payments systems.
Collaborate closely with platform, DevOps, and development teams to embed infrastructure best practices into product delivery cycles.
Reliability, Security & Compliance:
Implement infrastructure that meets the highest standards of security, compliance, and auditability required for payments and financial data.
Drive continuous improvements in system stability, fault tolerance, and operational resilience.
Ensure infrastructure supports performance SLAs, latency, and uptime commitments in a 24/7 environment.
Automation & DevSecOps Integration:
Promote automation of provisioning, deployment, scaling, and incident response processes.
Integrate security into infrastructure and deployment pipelines (DevSecOps).
Enable infrastructure self-healing, auto-scaling, and real-time monitoring to proactively manage platform health.
Metrics & Governance:
Define key platform metrics: uptime, deployment frequency, infrastructure health, automation coverage, and capacity utilization.
Regularly review and optimize infrastructure costs and efficiency.
Establish governance frameworks for infrastructure standards, change management, and compliance audits.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with engineering, security, operations, and product teams to ensure platform requirements are met.
Influence enterprise-wide standards and policies related to infrastructure and cloud adoption.
Translate business needs into scalable, reliable platform solutions aligned with technical roadmaps.
Leadership & Team Development:
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of a few dozens platform engineers and infrastructure specialists globally.
Foster a culture of innovation, operational excellence, and continuous learning.
Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing across teams to build a high-performance platform engineering organization.
Requirements: Extensive experience leading enterprise platform/infrastructure engineering in high-availability, security-sensitive environments.
Deep expertise in cloud platforms, containers, orchestration, networking, and enterprise infrastructure.
Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable, reliable infrastructure supporting both monoliths and microservices.
Strong knowledge of DevOps, automation tools, security, and compliance frameworks.
Experience in payments, financial services, or regulated industries is highly preferred.
