We are seeking a talented and motivated R&D Physicist with strong hands-on experience in optical laboratory work, photonics testing and physics-based data analysis. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and carrying out experiments for SiPh chip performance and characterization, performing and analyzing laboratory experiments of chip-level optical systems assembly, and developing test setups for photonics and laser device characterization. The ideal candidate combines strong experimental skills with the ability to analyze complex physical data, develop Python-based analysis tools, automate workflows and translate measurement results into clear technical insights for the R&D team. This role may require international travel for demonstrations, exhibitions and technical activities as needed.


Responsibilities:



* Design and carry out experiments for SiPh chip performance and characterization.
* Perform and analyze laboratory experiments of chip-level optical systems assembly.
* Develop, manage, and improve setups for photonics and laser device characterization.
* Analyze optical, electrical, and electro-optical measurement data using physics-based models and statistical methods.
* Develop Python-based tools, scripts, and Jupyter notebooks for data analysis, visualization, automation, and reporting.
* Build algorithms for test data processing, performance extraction, trend analysis, and failure/root-cause investigation.
* Support automation of lab equipment, data acquisition, and test flows.
* Apply DOE, statistical analysis, and modeling techniques to improve testing methodologies and product understanding.
* Work with R&D, design, test, and engineering teams to translate experimental results into actionable conclusions.
* Contribute to the development of new testing methodologies, data-analysis methods, and characterization techniques.
* Maintain clear documentation of experiments, analysis flows, code, and results.
* Ensure adherence to experimental protocols and safety procedures.
* Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
Requirements:
Skills
* Strong understanding of optics, photonics, and electro-optical systems.
* Hands-on experience with optical laboratory setups and photonics testing.
* Strong experience in physical data analysis, including interpretation of experimental results based on underlying physical mechanisms.
* Experience in preparation and execution of test plans, data analysis, DOE, and technical reporting.
* Strong Python programming skills for data analysis and automation.
* Experience working with tools such as Jupyter Notebook NumPy Pandas SciPy Matplotlib , or similar scientific Python libraries.
* Strong algorithmic thinking and ability to develop robust analysis flows for complex measurement data.
* Good coding practices, including readable code, modular structure, documentation, debugging, and maintainability.

Understanding of photonic components, waveguide routing and automated layout generation is a major advantage. o Develop and implement mask layouts for photonic integrated circuits using Cadence Virtuoso or similar software. o Create and maintain PCells for photonic building blocks (waveguides, couplers, modulators, gratings, etc.). o Perform waveguide routing, ensuring correct connectivity, bend radius limits, and low-loss optical paths. o Verify layouts using DRC, and LVS to ensure compliance with foundry requirements. o Collaborate with device designers to translate basic schematics and specifications into Software schematics and manufacturable layouts. o Optimize layouts for performance, yield, and compactness while adhering to technology constraints. o Participate in photonic design automation tool development and workflow improvements. o Prepare and manage data for tape-out and support mask review processes. o Debug layout and rule-check issues and propose corrective actions.
Requirements:
o Hands-on experience with Cadence Virtuoso or similar layout software (e.g., analog IC layout tools).
o Experience with DRC/LVS, foundry PDKs, and layout verification methodologies.
