The Kusto team builds the engine that powers real-time log analytics and big data exploration at massive scale across our company and beyond. You'll be joining the core engine team as a Senior/Principal Engineer, responsible for the technology that processes dozens of petabytes daily across hundreds of our company services and Azure's Top 100 enterprise customers.
Our engine is the foundation for critical products including Azure Data Explorer, our company Fabric's Real-Time Intelligence, Azure Log Analytics, and our company Defender for Cloud. It enables internal observability for hundreds of our company services and delivers lightning-fast analytics for organizations worldwide.
As a Senior/Principal Engineer on this team, you'll lead projects that advance the core Kusto engine by driving new capabilities, optimizing distributed query execution, enhancing ingestion, and solving complex engineering challenges in performance and scalability at petabyte scale.
Responsibilities
Partner with internal and external stakeholders to determine customer requirements, gather feedback, and ensure the engine meets their needs
Own and lead architectural discussions for complex aspects of projects within the Kusto engine and drive dependency identification and the design
Collaborate with partner teams across our company to ensure integration, testing, scalability, performance standards, and live-site coverage
Design and spearhead implementation of key projects in the Kusto engine core, from conception through delivery
Enhance existing engine components for even better performance, scalability, and maintainability
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, guiding them to produce maintainable, secure, performant code and establish test strategies that ensure quality
Lead collaboration with geographically distributed teams across our company and cross-functional disciplines.

Azure AI Video Indexer is part of the Edge AI group, dedicated to bringing AI capabilities to customers who need to manage workloads on-premises using Azure Arc technologies. It delivers intelligent, real-time video insights directly at the source of data. Running on Azure Local or Arc-connected Kubernetes infrastructure, Video Indexer ensures data privacy while analyzing live video streams for scenarios such as safety monitoring, anomaly detection, and retail operations. Customers can stream RTSP camera feeds to the edge deployment and view both the live video and AI-driven insights in real time. With conversational interaction and natural language customization, Video Indexer at the edge combines operational agility with a privacy-first architecture, making it ideal for industries that require immediate, compliant insights without sending sensitive data to the cloud.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Software Engineer in our Edge AI group, you will design, develop, and maintain media encoding pipelines and live streaming workflows for both cloud and on-premises environments. You will build infrastructure, tools, and real-time monitoring systems that ensure reliable live video delivery and operational visibility. Your work will involve writing code that integrates with Azure resources and extensions, leveraging modern technology stacks and methodologies. You will be expected to break down complex problems, create clear execution plans, and take full ownership of your code from development through production. Collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team will be key, requiring strong communication skills and alignment with our company values. In addition, you will automate quality control and alerting mechanisms to rapidly detect and resolve streaming issues, ensuring a seamless experience for customers streaming camera feeds and viewing live video alongside AI-driven insights.
