Every camera and sensing system we ship is used, every day, by hundreds of millions of people who simply expect it to work. Ensuring our systems are worthy of that expectation is this team's goal. We challenge products through the physical world to prove it, and to feed real-world evidence back into system design - measuring and analyzing the performance of multi-disciplinary optical sensing systems. This role is the analytical core of that work. You will define what we measure and why, mine large volumes of measurement data for the effect that actually matters, and take a question that has never been answered to a defensible answer. It is highly collaborative: you will work directly with module, optics, algorithm and system teams, and your conclusions will be the basis of their decisions. You will work alongside our lead system engineer as a peer, with problems allocated between you according to where the issue actually sits. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys digging into data until it gives up what it knows, and who wants to take that on with us.
Responsibilities
Own the characterization of system performance end to end - from risk and failure mode mapping through methodology definition, execution, analysis and reporting
Define metrics, testing & measurement methodology
Mine large data sets to separate isolate performance root causes
Correlate physical measurement to human perception - where the HW meets the user
Build the analysis capability the work requires - pipelines, tooling methods
Present and defend findings to module, optics, algorithm and system teams
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
MSc in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field, with at least 3 years of hands-on experimental and analytical experience
Strong data analysis and visualization - digest empirical data in a way that answers the question, and explain why that is the right way to look at it
Experience designing experiments to isolate a single effect, with the statistical judgment to assess sample size, repeatability and measurement error
Detailed understanding of optical sensing and imaging systems: image sensors, illumination sources, optical elements, and the tolerances that govern them
Great interpersonal skills - working collaboratively with peers and colleagues across the organization
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in a relevant field (Optics, Physics, EE) or equivalent
Background in image quality assessment and associated metrics
Background in depth sensing, calibration, or autofocus systems
Experience with large-scale data handling, automated analysis pipelines, or applying AI tooling to engineering analysis
Hands-on lab experience with optical setups and electrical equipment
Experience in the consumer electronics industry and with vendors
Experience defining and tracking requirements and specifications from system level through sub-modules and components
This position is open to all candidates.

We are looking for an electro-optics test engineer to join our growing Advanced Optics team in Herzliya. The Apple Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for the design, development, test, and qualification of camera hardware for Apple products; our team owns the end-to-end design, production, and testing of high-quality micro- and nano-optic components, including diffractive elements and metasurfaces. In this role you will own how we measure those components - developing new optical test setups, characterizing performance against design intent, and defining the metrology that carries a component from first prototype to mass production. The environment is collaborative and hands-on, spanning optical design, numerical simulation, precision measurement, and semiconductor fabrication.

Develop new optical test and metrology setups for metasurface and micro-optic components - from concept and prototyping through deployment on the bench and in the fab.
Operate and maintain new and existing test stations; build prototypes, fixtures, and measurement jigs.
Measure and analyze component performance, and correlate results to optical design and simulation and to product-level requirements.
Define methods, specifications, and acceptance criteria for both engineering builds and production.
Specify vendor test equipment and procedures; qualify vendor and in-line metrology; drive tool-to-tool and site-to-site correlation studies.
Support component bring-up, tolerance and robustness studies, and failure analysis.
Interface across design, process, product, and vendor teams to integrate components into our products.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
Hands-on experience in optical metrology and characterization, such as interferometry, wavefront sensing, MTF/imaging quality, spectrophotometry, ellipsometry/scatterometry, diffraction-efficiency, polarization, or stray-light measurement.
Proven ability to design and build optical test setups from the ground up - sources, detectors, cameras, spectrometers, opto-mechanics, and precision alignment. Prototype- and fixture-building skills are essential.
Deep proficiency in lab automation and data analysis - instrument control and scripting (Python preferred), statistical analysis, and measurement-system analysis (e.g. Gage R&R, correlation and tolerance studies).
Solid understanding of physical and wave optics relevant to micro- and nano-optics - diffraction, polarization, and imaging. Familiarity with metasurfaces and nano-photonics is an advantage.
Experience specifying and qualifying vendor test equipment and procedures, and transferring measurement methods from engineering builds into high-volume manufacturing. Familiarity with semiconductor or MEMS components testing is an advantage.
Self-directed, collaborative, and eager to learn and grow within an experienced team.

Preferred Qualifications
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Physics, Electro-Optics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of relevant industry experience; -or-
Ph.D. in one of the above fields with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
Proficient verbal and written English.
