Job responsibilities

We are looking for a highly technical, hands-on Platform Backend Engineer to join our Platform team.
This is a key technical leadership role for a senior backend/platform engineer who combines deep platform expertise with strong collaboration and communication skills. You will help shape the foundations of our engineering platform, lead important technical initiatives, and drive improvements in the way we build, deliver, and operate software.

You will partner closely with engineers, product, and architects, and play a central role in improving both the platform itself and the engineering environment around it.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and evolution of core platform capabilities by translating business, product, and customer needs into robust technical solutions that support multiple products and teams
Harness AI in day-to-day engineering work through practical adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows, while helping shape platform capabilities that support product-facing agentic applications
Bring a strong problem-solving mindset to complex platform challenges, proactively identifying gaps and driving improvements across architecture, infrastructure, reliability, observability, security, and SaaS readiness
Drive meaningful improvements in SDLC, engineering standards, and development processes to support high-quality and fast delivery
Act as a technical leader by setting direction, creating alignment, mentoring others, and raising the bar for technical excellence and accountability

Support the deployment and testing of new products and features. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze requirements, translating them into technical specifications. Design and implement APIs and integrations with third-party services to enhance system functionality. Optimize application performance through code profiling, monitoring, and refactoring as necessary. Implement automated testing frameworks to ensure code robustness and reliability. Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to foster continuous improvement. Stay updated with emerging technologies, best practices, and industry trends to drive innovation within the team. Assist in the establishment and enforcement of development standards and coding conventions.

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Sightline detection engineering team. You will design, build, and operate high-scale, low-latency backend services that score and protect web and API traffic against automated abuse, working at the core of our real-time detection platform.
What youll do:
High-Scale Engineering: Design, build, and maintain distributed, high-throughput backend services processing hundreds of thousands of requests per second with strict tens-of-milliseconds latency targets.
End-to-End Ownership: Own services from architecture and implementation to deployment and reliability. This includes full-stack instrumentation (monitoring, alerting, and tracing) to detect and mitigate production issues.
Product Innovation: Implement and evolve real-time detection and decisioning flows within the Sightline Cyberfraud Defense platform, collaborating with security researchers, data science, and product teams.
